Horse safe haven explains the cost to own and maintain a horse

GILMER - Nacogdoches Sheriff deputies are still looking for the owner of a malnourished horse they found tied up to a tree. Deputies say the horse is in such poor condition that they will have to put it down.

Properly taking care of a horse is very expensive. Safe Haven Equine Rescue Executive Director, Richard Fincher, works with local sheriff departments to seize abused horses.

"We make a promise to all  horses that they will never have to endure abuse or neglect again." Fincher said.

The safe haven opened in 1999 and Fincher has been with the organization for 12 years. He has helped more 850 horses find a better life.
