Loved ones remember Tyler homicide victims

Relatives talk about the two victims of a Tyler nightclub shooting.

TYLER - A fatal early-morning shooting occurred near a popular Tyler nightclub on Sept. 18. Steven Smith, 30, and 25-year-old Aisha McGee were shot and killed near Club Ice on North Pointe Road.

Many say both Smith and McGee were very loving and friendly people.

Ann Reed, a relative of McGee, said she believes this is an example of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Aisha was a very loving and caring mother of two kids and she just was a wonderful person,” Reed said.

McGee has two children whom relatives have not yet told their mother is dead. .

“Right now they just don't know. It's kind of hard,” Reed said. “The baby is asking for her mom. They're just not ready to tell them."

Reed said McGee was at Club Ice celebrating a new job. They say it’s something she didn’t do very often.

“So much going for her. She really just got a new job at the post office and she's very excited and she really don't even go that much,” Reed said. “She just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Relatives and friends shared what they’re going to miss about both victims.

“Just her smile, Aisha had this incredible smile, everybody knew it was Aisha, she just had a smile that just light up a room, just being her,” Mark Hoil, McGee’s cousin said. “This is a tough pill for us to swallow."

Steven Smith was the second person found dead.

“Very handsome, very gorgeous smile, sweet person, cool to chill with, you know never known for drama or into things so it's just hard to imagine why he laying down deceased now,” Teangela Austin, Smith’s ex-girlfriend, said.

Austin was in the nightclub when the shooting happened but didn't hear any gunshots. Now all she can think of is her unborn child. She says Smith was the father.

“Just been thinking about my child born with no father and emotional and I think justice should be serve,” Austin said.

The people CBS19 spoke with today said they aren’t sure how the two victims knew each other. Right now all they're asking for are prayers and that police find the person responsible.
