Lufkin gunman in custody after police negotiations

LUFKIN - UPDATE: Officers from the Lufkin Police Department have arrested Mikel Doyle, a 35-year-old Lufkin native, on a charge of deadly conduct. 

Police say Doyle was convinced by negotiators to come out of the house at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

No injuries have been reported.

UPDATE: Units from the Lufkin Police Department are still on the scene where an armed man has barricaded himself in a home on Augusta Drive in Crown Colony.

According to Lufkin Chief of Police, Gerald Williamson, law enforcement received a call at around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon about an individual that police had been dealing with throughout the day. 

The individual's behavior escalated, and he began firing shots around a residence and neighbors felt their lives were in danger. 

Homes in the area have been evacuated and several residents are waiting behind Lufkin Police vehicles until they are able to return to their homes

Lufkin patrol officers and their special response team are on the scene, containing the house and trying to make contact with the individual.

According to the Lufkin Police Department's Facebook page, officers are on the scene of an armed barricaded subject call on Augusta Drive in Crown Colony. 

The street has been closed from both sides as police officers are working to resolve the situation.

Lufkin police are advising golfers to leave the golf course and for all foot and vehicle traffic to avoid the area until law enforcement gives an all clear. 

Police say they will let everyone know once it is safe to enter the neighborhood.
