Man sentenced to 20 years, aggravated assault

GREGG COUNTY - According to the Gregg County Criminal District Attorney's Office, Traymon Davis was sentenced to serve 20 years in the Institutional Division of the TDCJ for two counts of Aggravated Assault.

On August 13, 2016, officers from the Longview Police Department were dispatched about a shooting with injuries in Longview on the 100 block of Rainey Street.

Two victims sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

With the help from eyewitnesses, police identified a vehicle used in the shootings and obtained a description of the alleged suspect.

Officers were soon able to find and stop a vehicle fitting the description witnesses provided.

The driver of the vehicle, Davis, was identified and arrested for traffic violations not related to the shooting.

While police conducted an inventory of the vehicle, Officer B. Creacy found and recovered fired shell casings. Those casings and the crime scene were submitted for a lab analysis.

Results from the analysis confirmed that the recovered shell casings from Davis' vehicle were fired from the same firearm as those recovered from the crime scene on Rainey Street.

After the lab results were accessed, Davis was arrested on a LPD warrant obtained by Detective James Reeves.

Davis will have to serve half of his sentence before he can be eligible for parole.
