Deputies arrest Chandler man wanted for Nacogdoches County homicide

NACOGDOCHES - Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said the suspect in a Sunday morning homicide outside Nacogdoches has been arrested without incident.

Deputies took Lester Butcher into custody shortly before 7 p.m. Monday.

He was located in a wooded area near the Holiday Hill subdivision, Hillhouse said. The subdivision is located near Lake Palestine off of County Road 4417.

Butcher, a Chandler resident is accused of killing James Steitler.

Nacogodches County Sheriff's Deputies found Stetler's body inside a home on County Road 817 as they responded to a welfare check around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies observed 'obvious signs' Steitler died of a homicide, according to a press release from Sheriff Jason Bridges.

During the course of the investigation, authorities identified Lester Butcher as a suspect in the case and issued a murder warrant.

Authorities suspected he fled to Henderson County, where he was later arrested.

Hillhouse said the suspect will be arraigned in Henderson County before he is transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Monday, Sheriff Bridges said his deputies were en route to retrieve the suspect.
