Children Are A Gift: Christian

Children Are A Gift: Christian

(KYTX) – Christian is an active teenager who enjoys sports. "I like to play football and basketball," he said.

He's a respectful young man who enjoys school, listening to music and playing games. He would like a forever family who has animals and lives on a farm.

"Overall he's real happy and loves to smile, but it's kind of hard for him today but usually he's all smiles and happy," said Ashley Gipson with Child Protective Services.

Christian was placed in foster care at just 4-years-old. He's now 13. The wait has been long. I asked him if he just wants a family who will love him. He shook his head yes, and the tears began to well-up in his eyes.

Christian is tired of moving from place-to-place. On this day, it was just too much for him and the tears began to rolls down his cheeks. I asked him if he was hopeful about finding a family. Keeping his head down, he simply replied, "Yes."

We found out he had just been moved again one day before this interview, and it was a very emotional time for him.

"That's what people don't understand. Every move is building a wall and more walls because he's hurt from the past. He's told, 'You don't have to leave. This is your forever family.' And then, all of a sudden, he has to move again," explained Gipson.

On this day, finding something positive to talk about was tough for Christian. I asked him if he was a good kid. Again, he hung his head and replied, "Yes."

Gipson says Christian will be able to break down those walls, but it will take time and a lot of love. "Trust is a big issue. He's going to have to build trust. He's just going to have to feel that you're going to be there for his good days and bad."

He needs a family environment that is consistent, structured and predictable. Gipson said, "He needs a family who can provide him a lot of attention, giving him that one-on-one attention."

Christian continues to deal with a tough past, but has a heart full of desire for a better life and a brighter future. "He's ready to be adopted. He's tired of the move!"
