Children Are A Gift: John

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Adopting a child not only gives them a loving family, but a better chance at life.

An East Texas boy is hoping he gets that chance.

Here is John's story in CBS 19's "Children Are A Gift."

More flavors than John could imagine ...

"You want to do chocolate. That's my favorite."

He's getting quite a treat at this TCBY in Tyler.

"You get your bowl and put as many as you like on there. Wow!"

"Very loving child, expresses affection, you're going to get it back, very polite."

"There you go. Thank you."

John says he's described as nice and kind.

"What's your favorite kind of candy? M&M's. They have that too."

He also makes friends easily and likes to make people laugh.

"He can be serious but just throw comments out there that strike you funny."

His favorite things are Pokeman and Yu-gi-oh cards and comic books.

He also likes playing video games and being creative.

"Transformers. I want to collect them but there is such an urge to take it out of the packet and transform it and see how it works."

"I also love marbles."

This 9th-grader does well in school but needs a little extra help with reading and math.

"John is a very inquisitive child. He likes to learn."

And he likes watching sports.

"My Rangers. Is that your favorite team? Yes ma'am."

He also likes attending his church youth group, singing in the school choir and just staying active.

"If I'm alone somewhere and there is nothing to do, I'm going to find something to do."

John often feels alone, spending a long time in foster care.

"Tell me about adoption, is it something you want? Yes ma'am."

"Cause I'll have a better home."

He's open to what lies ahead as long as it means plenty of love, encouragement and a safe home.

"Just a family."

"Very interesting kid, would be a great addition to someone's home." And while he waits for his forever family, he's savoring every moment of his tasty treat."How's your yogurt?"
