I-20 reopens after overturned cattle truck causes traffic buildup

GREGG COUNTY - UPDATE: As of 7:27 p.m. Friday evening, westbound lanes of I-20 affected by the overturned truck-tractor are back open.

According to Kilgore Police, heavy traffic congestion is still expected in the area for short while.

UPDATE: Traffic is being diverted from I-20 to SH 31 to FM 1252 west to SH 42 and back to I-20. TxDoT is encouraging drivers to use alternate routes to avoid delays.

It may take several hours to return to roadway back to a normal flow of traffic.

UPDATE: DPS and TxDot are on the scene assisting with traffic control at mile markers 587 through 589.

The overturned truck-tractor semi-trailer is still blocking the westbound lanes of I-20 in Gregg County.

According to DPS, the trailer was carrying cattle and some have escaped the trailer.

The Kilgore Police Department is urging drivers to avoid I-20 westbound at mile markers 588 and 589 due to an overturned truck-tractor semi-trailer.

Police say traffic is down to the shoulder and backed up "quite a distance". The westbound lanes in that area are shut down.
