BGC ammonia leak prompts area evacuations, school closure

9:20 a.m. - All roads around BGC warehouse reopened.
 
 
9:15 a.m. - Grace Elementary School closed.

Rebecca Berkley with ETMC stated that six people are now being treated in connection with ammonia leak: Four to ETMC and two to CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Francis No word on their conditions.

Multiple other patients being treated at the scene with oxgyen as well.

Traffic has opened up on the loop in both directions, but still being diverted away from Old Jacksonville Highway. BGC released the following statement: 

“The safety and well-being of our employees and the community are our highest priority,” said Ellen Reynolds, communications director for the company. “We are working closely with the Tyler Fire, Police and Emergency First Responders to address the situation.”

According to Rebecca Berkley with East Texas Medical Center, four people are being evaluated at two hospitals in connection with leak.

Two were sent to ETMC and the other two are at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Francis.

No word on their conditions.

 
8:13 a.m.
 
Tyler Police, Fire and EMS were called to the Brookshire’s Warehouse located at 1600 WSW Loop 323 in Tyler a little after 6:00 a.m. Friday morning for a reported ammonia leak.
 
Police have confirmed the leak and the warehouse has been evacuated.  
 
Traffic is shut down on Old Jacksonville Highway along with east and westbound lanes on Loop 323 around the warehouse.
 
CBS19 has a crew on the scene.

Tyler police are on the scene of a Hazmat situation at Brookshire's Warehouse located in the 1600 block of West Southwest Loop 323.
 
Police are asking drivers to avoid the area near Old Jacksonville Highway and the Southwest Loop.
 
CBS19 has a crew headed to the scene, we'll have more information as soon as it becomes available.
