TJC student thankful her family is safe after Maria

TYLER - Hurricane Maria is impacting East Texans who are praying for the safety of their loved ones.

A Tyler Junior College (TJC) student from Puerto Rico said her family is safe, but homes were destroyed.

"My mom is in her house. She's good. I talked with her this morning," said TJC freshman Kariely Delgado, who's family is still in Puerto Rico.

Delgado plays volleyball for TJC, and said that is the only thing keeping her mind off of the troubles back home.

"My coach and the girls keep asking me how I'm doing," she said.

Both her aunt and her grandmother lost their homes in the hurricane.

Feeling helpless thousands of miles away, she can finally rest a little easier knowing her family is safe.
