Sabine ISD student killed in early-morning crash

GREGG COUNTY - One person died in an early-morning wreck on Highway 135 on Sept. 19, according to a DPS press release.

According to a preliminary crash report, 16-year-old Jordan Thompson, driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer, was on Spokane Road and turned into the path of a tractor-trailer while trying to exit onto Highway 135 south.

The tractor-trailer struck the Trailblazer on the driver's side.

Thompson died at the scene, and a passenger in the Trailblazer was transported to a hospital in Longview.

Harold Pilgreen, 29, was driving the tractor-trailer, but there is no word on his condition.

Thompson was a junior at Sabine High School. Principal Eddie Shawn tells CBS19 that Thompson was an outstanding student who participated in band and was a winner in the UIL math team in 2015.

Counselors will be on campus to help students cope with the tragedy.

This wreck is still under investigation.
