Should churches have security? Local church leader answers question

East Texas church leader answers the question

TYLER - Sunday's horrific mass shooting is bringing up safety concerns for East Texas churches. Many consider church a place of peace.

Some say Sunday's shooting took that sense of security away from church.

Many East Texas churches already have security prepared to handle dangerous situations.

I spoke with Father Anthony Steoppel at Bishop Thomas K  Gorman Catholic School who says security shouldn't be needed in churches.

"You should be able to go anywhere and not be afraid of violence," Father Steoppel says. "This is a manifestation of our culture and we need to promote love among one another."
