TYLER - Henry Phillip Jackson, a 65-year-old Tyler native and long-time Smith County Precinct One Constable was sentenced to six months in federal prison on Tuesday for criminal tax violations.
Jackson pleaded guilty in May of this year to four counts of willful failure to file federal income tax returns.
According to court proceedings, Jackson served as an elected constable since 1999, received income from 2010 through 2013 that required him to file federal income tax returns during that time.
However, Jackson did not file those returns and is now in debt to the federal government for over $160,000 in taxes.
During his sentencing, Jackson was also ordered to pay $157,489 in restitution money.
The court has not yet set a report by date and Jackson's continued service in office or surrender of his Texas law enforcement license has not been addressed.
