TYLER - A Smith County Sheriff deputy who was shot during the Smith County Courthouse shooting is fighting for his life.
On Feb. 24, 2005 Deputy Sherman Dollison ran outside the courthouse to the shooting where a civilian was shot and killed. Dollison was shot multiple times from an AK-47.
He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and endured numerous surgeries.
Dollison went back to the sheriff’s office after months of hospitalization and rehab.
On Tuesday, Aug. 30 Dollison was admitted to a Tyler hospital with life-threatening complications from the shooting that happened 11 years ago.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office is asking for donations to help the Dollison family.
An account is being set-up in the deputy’s name at Southside Bank. Other fundraisers are in the works as well.
