Tashara Travels: Gorgeous Views from Love's Lookout

Join Tashara this week as she heads to Jacksonville's famous tourist attraction, Love's Lookout!

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas - Love's Lookout is located right outside of Jacksonville and arguably has some of the best views in East Texas.

Shelley Cleaver describes it as, "something to be proud of."

Cleaver is a local historian who volunteered to tell us all about what he refers to as, "one of the nicest truck stops you're going to find anywhere in Texas."

According to the city's website, the entire park is a part of a long, flat-topped hill that extends north and south about nine miles.

The east side looks over a broad valley - a wide expanse of beautiful scenery, where you can sometimes see as far as 30-35 miles.

The park was donated by John Wesley Love's wife in 1926, who provided 22 acres following her husband's death.

Throughout the years, the park has seen a lot of changes.

Over the course of its history, the park has been home to an amphitheater, swimming pool, dance hall and even putt-putt golf.

Today, the park is used as a Visitor/Information Center as well as a tourist attraction for thousands of travelers who make the stop just outside of Jacksonville.

"We officially opened Love's Lookout in November of 2004," said Peggy Renfro, President of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.

The park is a partnership between the City of Jacksonville, The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Department of Transportation and Cherokee County.

A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers who graciously explained this beautiful place to me.
