Update: Texas Rangers investigating Harrison County inmate death

MARSHALL - The Texas Rangers are still investigating the death of a female Harrison County inmate, who was found dead in her cell.

According to the Harrison County Sheriff 's Department, the inmate has been identified as 47-year-old Mary Ann Flanagan.

The cause of death has not been released, pending the results of an autopsy.

Deputies say the inmate arrived to the jail with no medical conditions. Mary Ann Flanagan was arrested around four that Friday afternoon at the Marshall Walmart. Deputies say she is suspected of shoplifting.

At 7:45pm, deputies say she made two phone calls. The first was to her mother who did not answer. The second was to her husband who she did speak with briefly. Afterwards deputies say she was taken to her cell.

During a routine jail check, deputies tell us she was found unresponsive in her cell. They contacted ems, but they were unable to revive her. Because this is a jail death, the Texas Rangers are investigating.

"I feel real bad about her dying in the Marshall jail,” Marshall resident Sharon Stafford said. “I really do hope something can be done about it, some kind of justice."

The Texas Rangers have not released any details of their investigation, but Harrison County Deputies tell us the woman’s autopsy results are completed. When we have more information, we will update you.
