The 8th Annual Gobble Up the Cash Barrel Race returns to Marshall

The 8th annual Gobble Up The Cash, barrel racing competition is going on this weekend in Marshall.

MARSHALL - Barrel racing has come back to Marshall this weekend! Hundreds of people will be bringing their best horses to compete in the 8th Annual Gobble Up the Cash Barrel Race.

"We expect 1,100 participants in this years race," Event organizer/producer Toni McCoy says."We are really excited to also collect toys for Toys for Tots."

This is the first year the event has collected toys for the charity. "We are expecting 200 to 300 toys to be donated," McCoy says.

Admission to the event is free, and anyone is welcomed to donate a toy. A perk for contestants, is that they will receive a ten dollar refund on stall and trailer fees if they donate a toy.

Friday is warm-up day for the contestants, and there will be a competition starting at 6PM. Saturday the official competitions begin at 9:30AM.

Racers of all ages and even countries are participating in this event.

Merco Toledo and his wife are from Brazil. They travel the world training horses and competing. They have even won world championships. 

"God gave me the ability to train horses," Toledo says. "I even met my wife through this profession."

McCoy encourages everyone in East Texas to come have some fun this weekend and don't forget to bring your toy.
