Traveling during the holidays can be stressful. Some local furry friends from Therapet helped ease the travel pains for those flying in and out of Tyler pounds regional airport on Monday.
"My heart melted because they're so sweet,” Sharon Senter said.
Senter was dropping her son off today for the national guard, a bitter sweet goodbye. She said these pups made the heartache a little easier.
"I just think it just calms your soul. And it brings a peace to you. You just want to pick them up and take them home with you,” she said.
Volunteers with Therapet said the research proves it.
"Science has shown, that when you pet a dog, it decreases cortisol levels - which is your stress hormone - and increases dopamine - which is your happiness hormone, basically," said volunteer Kaylee Garvey.
Therapet Executive Director Carianne Fisher said she got the idea to bring the pups last year.
"We had been watching press coverage last year seeing major airports had brought in therapy group organization ease traveler's stress,” Fisher said. “We're like, why don't we do that at Tyler Pounds?"
This is just one way volunteers said to soothes frazzled nerves. For those of you who weren't traveling today, the pups will be back on Wednesday, Nov. 23 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
