Two East Texas girls give back to other children

2 ETX girls give back to other children

TYLER, TX - The joy of giving is in the air in East Texas.

Two girls from East Texas have been working to give back this holiday season. Raising money and collecting donations to buy toys for sick children, and others less fortunate.

Six-year-old Lucy Cozad had a lemonade stand. CBS 19 has kept you up to date from the beginning, when she decided to do this because the children at the East Texas Crisis Center didn't have very many toys.

She earned $10,000 from the lemonade stand, and an organization in Dallas matched that amount with their own donation of $10,000.

Friday, Lucy and her family went to Toys "R" Us to use some of the money to buy Christmas presents for the children at the Crisis Center.

The presents will be delivered during the Christmas party later in the month.

Jeremy Cozad, a chairman with the Crisis Center says along with toys, the Crisis Center needs gift cards for all the moms. They will be used for them to purchase gifts for the family as well as anything they might need as they start their lives over.

The rest of the money from the lemonade stand is also being used on toys that will stay at the Crisis Center and updating the playground and play areas.

Another girl, Mallory Myers, decided to give children stuck in the hospital over Christmas a little gift of their own.

Build-a-bears!

She received a bear last Christmas and from there, decided to save her Christmas money, birthday money, and collect donations to make sure others had something warm and snuggly for Christmas this year!.

For Mallory, the fun part was making the bears, and she can't wait to see the kids reaction when they receive their gift!

This is one tradition she plans on continuing every year.
