When changing your clocks back this Sunday, go ahead and change your batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as well.
This time of year is when an increase in residential structure fires occurs and according to the National Fire Protection Association three out of five home fire deaths result from fires in properties without working smoke alarms.
With the cold weather approaching soon, getting your home winter ready before breaking out the space heaters and cranking up the temperature up is important.
- Be sure to check the batteries and test your smoke alarm once a month
- Never use a stovetop or oven to heat your home\
- Get your chimney vents cleaned by a qualified professional
- Keep items that can burn three feet away from fire places, wood stoves and space heaters.
