Tyler man sentenced to 10 years in jail, intoxicated manslaughter

A Tyler man pleaded guilty Thursday to intoxication manslaughter charges stemming from a fatal Feb. 5 crash in Lindale that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old Tyler man.

Michael Fielder, 47, was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Corrections.

A witness to the crash, which occurred on Super Bowl Sunday, told police that Fielder's Chevrolet Silverado went across the median into oncoming traffic and struck Gabriel Alejandro Flores-Cocolan's Ford F-150 head-on in the 1900 block of South Main Street in Lindale.

The drivers were pinned in their vehicles and unable to explain how the accident happened to the Lindale Police Department.

Flores-Cocolan was taken to Christus Trinity Mother Frances in Lindale, where he was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.
