Woman accused of assaulting deputy after strip club incident

SMITH CO. - A Whitehouse woman was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly assaulting a Smith Co. Sheriff's Deputy. Sgt. Darrell Coslin says a deputy saw a woman walking down Highway 31 East who appeared intoxicated.

While trying to help the woman, the Sheriff's Office received a call about an assault that happened at a strip club down the road. Investigators say the suspect matched the description of Kyla Rae Knight, the woman deputies detained.

The deputy placed Knight in handcuffs. Sgt. Coslin says she was able to pull one of her hands through the handcuffs and stared flailing around the backseat. He says when the deputies stopped the patrol car to get her back in handcuffs, she kicked the deputy in the chest. The deputy did not suffer injuries.

Knight is charged with assault on a public servant, evading arrest detention and public intoxication.
