Longview woman charged with murder of mother

A Kilgore woman has been arrested on a murder charge in connection with a suspicious death reported Thursday at a Longview apartment complex.
 
Kayla Ann Wheeler, 28, was booked into the Gregg County Jail Thursday on a charge of murder.
 
Wheeler arrived at the scene as police were investigating the death at Hidden Hills Apartments on Gilmer Road and asked officers about her mother, according to an arrest report.
 
Wheeler agreed to be interviewed about her mother’s death, and subsequently admitted to police that she stabbed her mother in the neck after a physical altercation. 
 
During the interview, Wheeler told detectives, “It was me I killed her,”
 
Wheeler’s mother’s name has not been released at this time, she was 52-years-old. Her body has been sent to Tyler for an autopsy.
 
Wheeler also told officers where they could find the weapon used during the stabbing, according to the report.
 
Wheeler's bond is set at $150,000.
