LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Longview Chamber of Commerce and Good Shepherd Health System have kicked off a new workplace wellness program aimed at trying to help employers in the East Texas area control their healthcare costs.
Both entities welcomed dozens of East Texas employers to a kickoff luncheon today at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview.
The aim -- help companies help their workers take better care of themselves -- and reduce healthcare costs.
"What we've seen is that more and more companies are taking on trying to keep their employees healthy, so that when they do get sick, they are not as sick," Good Shepherd Assistant Vice President Ron Short said.
National guest speakers Dee W. Edington, PhD from the University of Michigan and Katie W. Mahoney, JD, MHA from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, discussed how work site wellness and health policy impact employers' health care costs and ultimately their bottom line.
