CITY OF LONGVIEW:
Teams spanning the northern portions of Texas are converging on Longview June 14-16 to battle for three state championships. Forty-five squads are competing in the 2013 Texas Amateur Softball Association Girls Fastpitch 10-Under, 12-Under and 14-Under Class "C" State Tournaments at Lear Park Softball Complex.
The three-day affair is being hosted by Texas ASA District 34 under the direction of Commissioner Willard Young and the City of Longview Parks and Recreation Department.
Games begin on the eight Lear Park softball fields Friday evening, June 14, continue all day Saturday and then wrap up Sunday. The three champions will be crowned Sunday afternoon.
Activities leading up to the start of tournament play include opening ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. on Lear Softball Field 1. Highlights of the ceremony include introduction of the teams, an official welcome by Longview city officials, the singing of the national anthem, remarks by District 34 Commissioner and Tournament Director Young, introduction of the umpires by Umpire-In-Chief Trevor McDonald and the ceremonial throwing of the first pitch.
This tournament comes on the heels of the highly-successful 66-team fastpitch Hall of Fame Qualifier Tournament that ASA District 34 and Longview PARD hosted May 24-26 for 14-U, 16-U and 18-U Class "A" teams. Games were held at Lear Park Softball Complex and the Pine Tree High School Field.
