LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Former superintendent Dale Bohannon credits his newest grandchild for his desire to go back to kindergarten. As a principal, that is.
Bohannon on Monday was named as Bramlette Elementary School's new principal. He is a 39-year public education veteran, including stints as a teacher, principal and superintendent, among other duties. He most recently worked in New Waverly ISD.
Bohannon replaces long-time principal Vernessa Gentry, who recently retired from being a full-time educator to spend more time with her family. His charge began Tuesday morning.
"After being blessed with the opportunity to be a grandparent, I thought it would be rewarding to go to the place where everything you learned – you learned in kindergarten," Bohannon said. "I know that there are some big shoes to fill at Bramlette, and I'm looking forward to getting to the business of educating our children."
Bohannon and his wife Teresa Bohannon have five children and six grandchildren. They currently live in the College Station area but will begin the search for a local home this week, he said.
