Longview man accused in officer involved crash is now in custody

LONGVIEW, TEXAS (KYTX) Tonight Ramon Dominguez is now arrested and charged with two counts of intoxication assault.  He's the alleged drunk driver who slammed into a Longview police officer's patrol car head on.

Sunday morning police say 22 year old Ramon Dominguez lost control of his car on Loop 281, slid across the median and crashed into officer Leigh Ann Snyder's patrol car.  It flipped once and a small fire behind the grill ignited.

Police tell us Dominguez was driving drunk. "When officers arrived they smelled what they thought was the odor of an alcoholic beverage from his breath and then from further investigation we did determine he was intoxicated," says officer Kristie Brian.

Dominguez went to the hospital with injuries but is now charged with two counts of intoxication assault.

Officer Leigh Ann Snyder and Courtney Walker, who was participating in the ride along program, were both seriously hurt.  "Leigh Ann did have to have emergency surgery. She's recovering at this point. She did sustain some pretty severe injuries. Its going to be a long road to recovery for her," says officer Brian.

"She sustained two broken legs and possibly a broken pelvis," explained Sergeant David Scott.

Officer Snyder had been going to an alarm call when the accident happened.

"Anytime one of our police officers is injured in the line of duty it is a difficult situation and officers did a very good job of getting the accident investigated," says officer Brian.

Tonight Longview's finest are hoping for a quick recovery for officer Snyder.

Officer Leigh Ann Snyder and the civilian rider, Courtney Walker, are both listed in fair condition tonight at a Longview hospital.
