Longview man arrested for indecency with a child

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Police arrested a Longview babysitter Sunday on indecency with a child charges.

Darrell Gene Pointer, 57, is in the Gregg County Jail on $100,000 bond this morning. He's accused of touching a child he babysat after he locked her into a bedroom and showed her pornography, according to an arrest warrant filed in Gregg County's 307th District Court.

The child was interviewed at the Children's Advocacy Center of Gregg and Harrison Counties on May 6, and began speaking with a counselor on Thursday - one day before Longview Police Department filed an arrest warrant, according to court records.

Pointer was indicted in 2009 for injury to a child or elderly person with the intent to cause bodily injury - a second-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Court records show that Pointer pled guilty instead to misdemeanor assault/family violence and was sentenced to 330 days in county jail.
