Longview man charged with shooting wife's hip

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Longview police say a 65-year-old man shot his wife in the hip after an argument at their home late Saturday.

According to court documents from Gregg County's Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace, Jackie Sample was arrested at 11:16 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Gum Street, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Two other people in the residence at the time of the shooting told investigators and Sample and his wife were arguing in their bedroom when the wife walked out and closed the door behind her.

"It was then that at least three shots were fired through the door, with one of the rounds striking the victim in the hip," officers said in Sample's arrest report. Officers located three bullet holes at the scene, including at least three bullet holes that went through the door, according to records.

Sample was released from jail Sunday on $20,000 bond. An emergency protective order has been filed.
