Longview man killed in New Mexico traffic accident

NEW MEXICO (KYTX) - A Longview man has died in a two vehicle traffic accident in New Mexico.

State Police report that on Tuesday July 8, 2014, at approximately 12:40 P.M., officers responded to the scene at US Highway 62/180, near milepost 66.

An Initial investigation by officers on the scene, determined a 2013 Chevrolet pick-up, driven by 28-year-old Hector Morales from Hobbs, New Mexico was traveling eastbound when a car driven by 29-year-old Craig Pentland of Longview was attempting to exit a parking lot of a business.

As Mr. Pentland attempted to enter the eastbound lanes of traffic he failed to yield the right of way, driving out in the path of the vehicle Mr. Morales was driving.

The two vehicles collided and came to rest in the center median of the highway.

Mr. Pentland was pronounced dead at the scene.  The contributing factors in this crash have been identified as failure to yield the right of way and driver inattention.

Alcohol was not a contributing factor.
