Longview mayor to assemble group to study Interstate 20 development

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Mayor Jay Dean says he wants to bring together an 8-to-10 member task force - a group of Longview residents and business people - to determine how Longview can beautify, attract business and remove eyesores along the Interstate 20 corridor.

In 2009, Longview's Vision 2015 committee said revitalizing the Interstate 20 corridor at all five exits should be a strategic goal of the city. That includes better city signs and more restaurants, gas stations and stores, all bringing more tax revenue to Longview.

Longview Economic Development Corp. says there are about 27,700 households with a median annual income of more than $42,000 within 15 minutes of I-20. It believes the corridor is ripe for development.

Mayor Dean says he will unveil his I-20 corridor task force idea at Thursday night's city council meeting, so the work can begin.
