LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Since Wednesday, four people have been hit by drivers while walking across Longview roads.
At 8:42 Monday night, police were called to the 1700 block of Mobberly Avenue at Butler Drive, where 50-year-old Janice Thompson was struck by a 2005 white GMC Sierra truck driven by 33-year-old Andres Sanchez-Kedney.
Officer Kristie Brian says Thompson was treated and released from a Longview hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and was cited for not using a cross-walk. The driver was not at fault, but he was ticketed for not having his driver's license.
In three of the four pedestrian versus vehicle wrecks since Wednesday in Longview, the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk.
"Especially at night, be mindful of people who might be walking out into the roadway," Brian says. "Unfortunately, a lot of the incidents that we have is the person, the pedestrian just walks out into the roadway in front of a car. Slow down at night just to give yourself just a little bit of extra room in case someone were to step out in front of you."
Brian says police are on the lookout for pedestrians who don't use approved crosswalks to walk across local streets, and they could be ticketed.
