Loughner to be sentenced for Tucson rampage

(CNN) - Jared Lee Loughner, the man who shot then-Representative Gabrielle Giffords in the head, will be sentenced today.

Loughner pleaded guilty to 19 counts, including the attempted assassination of a member of Congress. A source close to Giffords says she and her husband plan to appear in court for the sentencing and that Giffords' husband Mark Kelly will speak on behalf of the family.

Loughner fired shots at a Giffords public event at a Tucson, Arizona supermarket last year.
Six people were killed, and 12 others-- besides Giffords -- were hurt. Loughner pleaded guilty back in August in exchange for avoiding the death penalty.
