LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A traffic stop led to two arrests Monday night in Gregg County.
According to DPS, state trooper Jacob Muehlstein pulled over a vehicle for speeding at the 591 mile marker of Interstate 20 near Kilgore. The occupants of the car were Grand Cane, La., residents 29-year-old Ashley Renee Mooney and Russell Bryan Slawson, whose 37th birthday was Monday.
Muehlstein says Mooney and Slawson were acting nervous and denied a consensual search of the vehicle, so the trooper called in Kilgore Police Department's K-9 unit, which arrived on the scene and detected narcotics. A probable cause search revealed a meth pipe beside the passenger seat, and 47 grams of methamphetamine and 10 grams of "high grade marijuana" were in the vehicle's floorboard, according to an arrest affidavit.
Slawson and Mooney are in the Gregg County Jail tonight on $11,000 bond each, charged with possession of a controlled substance/paragraph I, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
