Lt. Gov. outlines legislation to allow teachers to carry guns

(KYTX) - Gun training won't just be for emergency medical responders and law enforcement personnel if one Texas politician has his way.

The legislation, outlined Friday by Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, would allow teachers who have been approved by the independent school district in Texas to carry guns in the classroom.

Those teachers would have to undergo specialized training and obtain a state concealed carry license.

"The last thing we want is an armed camp for our children to be attending school in. but that the same time none of us want to see our children hurt," says Lt. Gov. Dewhurst.

The Lt. Gov. may get support from Governor Rick Perry who is not opposed to the idea.

The governor believes that an increase in federal and state funding is needed to combat gun violence.
