Lufkin PD in search of man who stole car with child inside

Lufkin Police Department:

LUFKIN (KYTX) - At approximately 5:26 p.m. on Tuesday, Lufkin PD officers responded to Kid Kountry Day Care, located at 2505 West Frank Avenue, following a report that an unidentified suspect stole a maroon 2010 Toyota Tundra with a 6-year-old female in its backseat.

The vehicle's owner reported that she left the vehicle's engine running and her daughter in the vehicle's backseat while she went inside the day care to retrieve her other daughter. The complainant stated that when she exited the building she saw the vehicle driving westbound on W. Frank Ave.

Lufkin PD Dispatchers notified all area law enforcement agencies of the incident and requested assistance locating the child and vehicle. Moments later, the Dispatchers learned that the child was released, physically unharmed, in the parking lot of Bower Mobile Home Park in Hudson. At approximately 6 p.m., Angelina County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Hudson PD Officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of Hudson Green Apartments, located at 840 Mount Carmel Rd.

The suspect was described as a 20 to 25-year-old black male with short hair, wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts, and white and black shoes but officers did not locate him.

At this time, Lufkin PD Detectives have not definitively linked this crime to the April 1, 2013 theft of a red 2000 Chevrolet truck from a doctor's office parking lot in the 1300 block of W Frank Ave but they are investigating that possibility.

The suspect in that crime was described as a 20 to 30-year-old black male wearing dark pants and a dark blue t-shirt with white emblem on it. The offense report described the suspect's hair as an "inch and a half to two inch afro type hair".

The Detectives are also investigating the April 02, 2013 theft of a gold-colored 1995 Toyota Avalon from the employee parking lot at Pilgrim's Pride on W Frank Ave.  The suspect's description is currently unknown for that case.

Anyone with information concerning any of these crimes should contact Lufkin Police Department.  Anyone wishing to provide information concerning any of these crimes while remaining anonymous should contact Crime Stoppers of Lufkin at (936) 639-TIPS or online at
