Luminant Consortium Partners with Tyler Junior College for Job Training Grant

TYLER (KYTX)- Luminant Generation Co. and Luminant Mining Co. have partnered with Tyler Junior College to provide job training using a $270,967 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

The grant will be used to custom train 133 new and incumbent workers at several Luminant East Texas generating and mining facilities.

The training will facilitate the transfer of knowledge from experienced employees to less-experienced employees enabling them to become productive more quickly.

Those trained will include equipment maintenance apprentices, support mining plant helpers and material maintenance specialists. Upon completion of training, the workers will earn an average hourly wage of $19.32.

TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar will present a check to representatives from Tyler Junior College and the partnering businesses at a 10:30 a.m. ceremony in the lobby of the Skills Development Center located at Street 1530 SSW Loop 323 in Tyler.
