LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Longview police say 21-year-old man with a history of burglary arrests was caught breaking into a west Longview preschool early this morning.
Police spokeswoman Debra Stiles says police were called to Kid Connection Preschool Learning Center, at 200 Pine Tree Road, at 1:32 Tuesday morning for a reported break-in. Once there, officers saw a man who ran away from police but was later caught.
An employee with Kid Connection Preschool said the main building suffered no damage or property loss, and that the only damage was a small hole the suspect left in a storage building. Classes on Tuesday were not affected, the employee said.
The man, David Wayne Kirkpatrick, was charged with breaking into the preschool, a nearby storage building, evading arrest and unlawful use of a criminal instrument, according to Gregg County Jail online records. Stiles said that Kirkpatrick had a backpack and bicycle at the crime scene, along with burglar tools including a flashlight and bolt cutters.
Stiles says she does not know if anything was taken from the preschool or the storage building.
Kirkpatrick has been convicted of criminal trespass and two burglary charges since 2009. In 2011, he was sentenced to four years in prison for breaking into a Gregg County home.
