(KBMT) - A Jefferson County man was indicted in Orange County on a charge of improper photography or visual Recording. The charge stems from an incident at the Little Cypress Baptist church.
The sheriff's office Thursday issued the following news release:
On July 20, 2012 the Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to Little Cypress Baptist Church located at 3274 Little Cypress Drive in Orange concerning suspicious circumstances. On arrival Deputies met with a church member who advised that a hidden camera had been found inside the women's restroom inside the church. The hidden camera was mounted on the wall in the restroom and had been recording people in the restroom without their knowledge.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division was contacted and Investigators conducted the investigation into this alleged incident. Investigators were able to develop a suspect in this case, Daniel Turner, W/M, a 35 year old Beaumont resident. Investigators interviewed Turner and he admitted to placing the camera in the restroom to record women without their knowledge or consent. He also admitted to placing cameras in other restrooms and dressing rooms at stores and other locations in Beaumont.
The Beaumont Police Department was notified of this situation and they conducted an investigation. Once Beaumont PD completed their investigation their case was presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office. In early October, the Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted Daniel Turner on one count of improper visual recording of a bath or dressing room and one count of improper visual recording, other location. Turner was arrested by Jefferson County Authorities and is currently out of jail on bond.
Once the Orange County Investigation was complete, the case was presented to the Orange County District Attorney's for review and disposition.
On December 12, 2012 this case was presented to the Orange County Grand Jury. As a result, DANIEL TURNER, W/M, age 36, was indicted on 3 counts of Improper Photography or Visual Recording, which is a State Jail Felony offense punishable by up to two years in State Jail for each count.
On December 13, 2012, Daniel Turner turned himself in at the Orange County Correctional Facility and bond has been set at $30,000.
