Man suspected in 2012 Palestine killing turns himself in
A man suspected in the September 2012 killing of Jason Villanueva turned himself in earlier this month.
Rafael Marquez, 20, of Palestine, turned himself in to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office on March 4, according to a Palestine Police Department news release.
He is charged in connection with Villanueva's death and was being housed at the Anderson County Jail on a $250,000 bond, according to information from jail personnel.
Police learned of Marquez's involvement during the initial investigation into Villanueva's killing.
A warrant was issued for his arrest, but police learned he had left the Palestine area and might have gone to Mexico, according to the news release.
The investigation was still ongoing, according to the news release. Once complete, the case will be turned over to the District Attorney's Office for grand jury consideration.
