Man who fires shots off building in downtown Tyler released

TYLER (KYTX) - UPDATE: The 22-year-old man that fired shots off a building in downtown Tyler on Thursday night has been released from Smith County Jail. 

According to Smith County Jail, Joseph Mendoza was arrested and charged for Discharging a Firearm within City Limits and driving the wrong way on a one way road. He was released on a $1000 bond early Friday morning. 


Tyler Police Department:

(TYLER POLICE DEPARTMENT) - On October 10, 2013 at approximately 11:40 p.m. the Tyler Police Department received several calls regarding gun shots in the downtown area. 

Several officers near the square also heard the gunshots and immediately began searching the area.  Within minutes officers located several  subjects they believed were involved.  An investigation revealed that one of the subjects was in possession of a firearm and was responsible for firing the weapon moments earlier. 

22-year-old Joseph Mendoza of Tyler was arrested for Discharging a Firearm within City Limits and transported to the Smith County jail.  A thorough search of the area was conducted and no one was found to have been injured as a result of the incident.
