3 arrested after Smith County manhunt

SMITH COUNTY - UPDATE: Earl Nelson Jr., 38, Trinity Driver, 28, and Kendall Durham, 28, were arrested in Smith County after a manhunt on Thursday.

A TxDot Trooper tried to stop a Ford pickup for speeding in Southeastern Smith County when the vehicle evaded the Trooper for several miles.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop and all three occupants ran from the scene.

Police were able to capture one of the occupants, Nelson, but Driver and Durham were able to get away while Nelson was being arrested.

Officers from various law enforcement agencies arrived to the scene and set up a perimeter and a K-9 unit from the Smith County Sheriff's Office began to track the missing subjects.

The K-9 officer tracked the subjects to Driver's residence on County Road 2301. Driver refused to come out of the home after police tried to negotiate with him.

A SWAT team from Smith County entered the home and were able to take Driver and Durham into custody.

Later, police found out that the Ford pickup that Driver was operating was stolen somewhere in the Dallas area.

Based on evidence collected by law enforcement, detectives obtained an evidentiary search warrant for Driver's home and found various firearms and stolen items.
