Mayor: Man hired to be Tatum police chief backs out

TATUM/RUSK COUNTY (KYTX) - For the third time in 13 months, Tatum is looking for a police chief.

Mayor Phil Cory tells cbs-19 that the man they hired for the job earlier this week -- backed out.

Former narcotics officer Jack Tully didn't give a reason why he doesn't want the job, but Cory says the city will start from square one searching for applicants.

People living in Tatum say they're not too worried.

"To me, the coverage hasn't changed with the turnover of the police chief, so, you know, I still feel safe in the Tatum community," resident Sherry Parker says.
