It's an organization that serves 3,000 meals to home-bound hungry East Texans every day, and Wednesday local city leaders were a part of meals on wheels.
Tyler city councilman and mayor pro temp Mark Whatley represented the city of Tyler and Mayor Barbara Bass for the 6th annual 'Mayors for Meals' day. Meals On Wheels serves seniors in six East Texas counties. Wednesday is a day for city leaders to learn about the organization, and the need.
"It's nice to see what this type of facility and this type of service can do for people who are in real need," Whatley said.
"It's just nice to know that someone's coming and that you're going to have that meal," added Marsha Finney, a Meals on Wheels recipient.
