Memorial service planned for TVCC students killed in head-on collision

ATHENS, TEXAS - A memorial service is planned for the two Trinity Valley Community College students killed in a wreck in Freestone County on Monday.

Bryce Cook (left) and Tyler Spillman (right), both TVCC freshmen, were headed back to Athens around midnight from the Houston area when they collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on Farm-to-Market Road 488 in the Fairfield area.

The service will be Oct. 12 at the football practice field and starts at 6:30 p.m. A brief program is planned, including a balloon release by memebers of the Cardinal football team and coaching staff.

Heather Spillman, Tyler's aunt, talked with CBS19, saying:

There is nothing that can prepare you for losing a precious loved one, especially one who had his whole life ahead of him. And while we are shocked and saddened by his passing, we know that God is not shocked. We know that Tyler is by the side of his Creator today. We are both grateful and humbled by the support we’ve received from the TVCC family and the whole community. We ask that each student and community member continue to honor Tyler’s legacy by actively pursuing your dreams and pushing through life’s adversity the way that he did in every aspect of his life.

The football practice field is located to the west of Cardinal Hall and the public is invited to attend. Counselors will be available for support.
