Merritt says public service won't end despite loss in Tuesday's runoff for ag commissioner

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Tommy Merritt says his days in public service won't end with his loss in Tuesday's runoff for the Republican nomination for state agriculture commissioner.
Merritt is a Longview oilman and former seven-term state representative. He trailed Stephenville rancher Sid Miller by more than 30,000 votes throughout Tuesday night election returns.
"It's kinda what comes down the line, what someone asks me to do to help them to serve," Merritt says. "I like public service and have enjoyed this, and it's been a great adventure for me."
When asked about the voting results, Merritt says his campaign won several counties, but didn't win in the state's most populous counties.
