From Built Ford Tough Player of the Week Program:
CLASS 3-A: Dac Shaw, Sr., Running Back/Linebacker, Mineola:
Opponents of the Mineola Yellow Jackets never know where Dac Shaw is coming from. He's the prototypical big (6-3, 215 pounds) downhill runner and a fleet-footed, hard-hitting linebacker. In last week's 41-21 victory over Winnsboro, Dac did it all on both sides of the ball. First he rumbled for 319 yards and five TDs (3, 11, 7, 13, and 9 yards), singlehandedly outscoring the Red Raiders. On the other side of the ball, he made 12 tackles and had two QB pressures. It's easy to see why TCU (where he figures to be a prized linebacker) was elated to get his verbal over UT, A&M, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma.
Shaw is a two-time, two-way all-district player who also plays basketball and runs track. He maintains a solid 3.0 GPA and is an active leader in the team's mission to mentor elementary school children in Mineola. He's also a member of the FCA.
"Dac is blessed with great talent," says Coach Joe Drennon. "He's all over the field on both sides of the ball. He makes great reads on defense and has tremendous vision and balance. When he gets behind those pads, he's a load to take down. Generally he's quiet, doing things his way. But he commands the respect of his teammates and coaches."
