MLB to announce suspension details

(CBS) - Major League Baseball told the New York Yankees that Alex Rodriguez will be suspended today, but that he can still play while appealing the suspension.

An announcement is scheduled for later today. Rodriguez faces accusations that he used performance enhancing drugs and obstructed the investigation. He's one of 14 players implicated in the Biogenesis case.

Rodriguez is 38 years old. A suspension until the 2015 season could end his career.

"This is a guy who would then be 40-years-old, having had two hip surgeries, so it's highly unlikely that he could ever even think about playing again," says Bill Madden, New York Daily News Sportswriter.

The suspension could be shorter- if Rodriguez agrees to accept the punishment without appealing the decision. He's also one of the highest paid players in professional baseball. If the suspension holds- he could lose out on more than thirty million dollars in pay from the Yankees.
