Morris County man shot at, pistol whipped in feud over BBQ pit

LONE STAR/MORRIS COUNTY (KYTX) - A shooting at a Morris County gas station ended with two minor injuries and one man in jail.

Lone Star Police Chief Larry Fleet said officers responded to the Mobil station on U.S. 259 in Lone Star shortly after 11 this morning. Stacy Ramon Lewis spotted a man with which he's had an ongoing feud, chased him into the store parking lot with a gun and fired a shot, missing the man. Fleet said the gun then jammed on Lewis, so he struck the victim on the head with the gun, which caused the gun to break.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was treated at the scene. Lewis was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center-Linden to treat an injury to his wrist, and then was transported to the Morris County Jail. Fleet said Lewis, 38, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

The feud has been ongoing for several weeks, and police had investigated two other run-ins between Lewis and the victim before a third reported altercation earlier this morning at a residence in Lone Star, Fleet said. Both men later saw each other at the gas station.

Fleet said the feud stems from payment of a barbecue pit that the victim constructed for Lewis. Police had been working with the two men to help settle was Fleet called "a civil matter."

Officers later found the bullet fired in this morning's shooting in an ice container outside the store.
