Mud Run Raises Money for Special Needs Baseball Field

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - At least 1,200 runners showed up for Longview's first-ever "Run It Like It's Hot Miracle Mud Run." Scaling ladders, hopping through tires and of course mud. It is helping to raise money for the Miracle League of East Texas. The organization is trying to raise enough money to cover a $750,000 dollar price tag that will get more children on the baseball field. The extra amenities this field needs to accommodate children with disabilities makes it pricey.

A 6 inch concrete surface will be covered with a spongy turf to allow wheelchairs, more awnings will be required to provide adequate shade, and bleachers must be handicap accessible. Miracle League Board Member Vikki Jones says the closest field with these accommodations is in Dallas.

"You see all of these parents and all of these kids having a great time and you have all of these players sitting on the sidelines just wishing they could play. That's what it is like for these children." - Vikki Jones,Board Member for Miracle League of East Texas

The Miracle League of East Texas says it has already raised $250,000 towards the baseball field.
